Bowl 4 1/4 h. x 3 7/8 d. 6 3/4 h. overall. Non-flint crystal. 3 different stork scenes on the bowl & lid. Geometric finial. The pattern shown here is called Clear Stork by Kamm (Bk. 3,p. 64) and also pictured in Lee's Early American Pattern Glass (Plate 100, Row 3, #3 only) where she includes it under the Frosted Stork classification. There are atleast 5 patterns similar to this one that have been given a plethora of names by different glass authors. These names are generally not applied with any consistency, and often the same name is applied to two or more patternswhich can be or could be differentiated. Matters are further complicated by the lack of catalog or other illustrations showing which pieces belong to the same table set. See Welker, Pressed Glass in America, p.447 fordetails, and where she places this sugar's pattern in Group #5. A few included bubbles, shear lines, & some light mold roughness inside the lid's inner rim & the bowl's rim. 2 small chips on the inside of lid's inner rimo/w Fine. Scarce.
