Title PRIMITIVE 19TH C. SCHOOL SLATE CHALKBOARD.
Seller ID 78-0042
11 x 15 h. Double sided. Age darkened wooden frame with nailed dovetailed construction. Leftside of frame has two pairs of old nails, which attached a strip of leather (presumably for carrying) of which only a remnant remains. The top of the frame has two holes, which may have been for hanging. The wood is quite distressed with a few short cracks. Some of the nails, particularly those with the larger heads, may have been early make-do additions to tighten the frame, although the simple design & the lack of uniformity in the placement of the smaller head nails strongly suggests this was homemade. The sizable crack in the slate ends at its bottom with a small piece missing. The slate, however, is held tightly in the frame.
