Elongated oval-shaped pin with its front plate decorated with an akanthos leaf design in relief. 1 1/4 l. x 1/4 w. Back stamped PAT 42312 (April 23, 1912) referencing patent number 1,023,940 issued to Clifford G. King, Providence, RI, for a unique pin stem or tongue design that incorporates a spring,eliminates hinges. and allows the entire bar pin to be assembled without soldering. The pin tongue is a single piece with half of it flattened & each end held to the back by a slot. Part of this half is corrugated to form thespring, which presses against the other half of the pin tongue, which has been bent back along the spring half and ends in a point held by a safety pin clasp.
