The label is pasted over the cover of a real book (The Open Door Language Series, Second Book by Scott Congdon & Peet Frazee published by Houghton Mifflin). Book opens to reveal the center of the book's pages cut out to create a cavity holding a wooden paddle picturing a child being spanked. DIRECTIONS GraspHandle Firmly and apply vigorously when needed are printed in the bottom ofthe cavity. A blank label covers text on the back cover of the original book. 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 h. x 5/8. Unmarked, but also included is the original cover letter (12/19/1947) to the inventor, George Howard Wallace then of Pittsburgh, PA, from H. Fishlove & Co., which accompanied payment for the idea and a sample of the novelty. The letter refers to this novelty as #204. Some very light foxing on the cover label o/w Fine. The letter is thrice folded with wrinkles & age toning.
