Shellenberger (1896 - 1941) was a York Osteopath located at 445 West Market St. THE DAILY NEWS, Huntingdon, PA, edition of March 14, 1932 reported York, Pa. March 14. - York police had no trace today of a man alleged to have told Dr. M. B. Shellenberger, an osteopath here, that the missing Lindbergh baby would be turned over to authorities at Bedford, Pa. on payment of $100,000 this week. The police also reported tbat they had not been contacted by investigators from Hopewell, N.J. where leaders of the search were quoted as stating that they were inquiring into the York story. According to Shellenberger's story, a man, described as six feet tall and well-dressed, locked the osteopath in his office after compelling him to telephone the ransom message to Hopewell. A baby held by a woman accompanying the stranger was presented as tbe child missing from Hopewell since March 1. The stranger had an hour's start before Shellenberger escaped from the office, he said. Good, i.e. obvious signs of use with no major defects. See scan.
