Title page has a presentation from the author's daughter ('For my dear Mrs. Speed from her admiring and affectionate friend Julie Burnett Stevens - Boston Mass Nov. 8, 1921. And fate was kind!'). Julie Burnett Smith Stevens, the wife of Boston attorney Oliver Crocker Stevens, was the daughter of the author and ex-governor of Vermont, John Gregory Smith. Regarded by some as science fiction, and by others (some Jehovah's Witnesses in particular) as a religious revelation by a fallen angel to the author. The book presents an account of the conditions on earth prior to the Biblical flood.
