Back cover has 'Be sure the Ham you buy bears this tag - {shows a yellow & blue Armour Star Ham tag}'. Illustrated in color with 9 prepared ham recipes, an Amour ham with its vintage packaging partially open on the title page, & a page illustrating various ham cuts with a picture of a fully packaged Armour ham. Based on clothing & hair styles shown in one of two b/w illustrations, this is definitely from the 1920s. Covers are very faintly soiled, front cover has a crease in the upper right corner, some very light, scattered stains on the inside of the cover & the title page o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with significant defects.

64pp. Tall 8vo. 6' x 9'. Matte wraps with the upper half of the cover brown & lower tan. Title in tan the upper half, publishers name in brown in the lower in half with 'Circulated by the Harrisburg Patriot' printed below, & an illustration in brown & tan between the halves of a tray & compote of appetizers. 300 recipes, Table of Contents & Index. Haskin operated the Haskin Information Bureau in Washington, DC which later was known as 'The Agency Of The People'. The operation was financed by newspapers which distributed his various publications such as this one. In turn, the public was invited to submit questions to his large staff of experts who provided answers without charge. Haskins himself was the author of several Books including one on the Panama Canal & another on American Government. Additional recipes written in pencil on inside of the back cover, both covers have light stains & soiling, lower right corner bumped o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects. The cover shows a couple with their son holding a dog (all smiling as only the unconstipated consumers of ALL-BRAN can) walking straight toward the viewer the sunlight while the unhappy unconverted are shown in the blue shade behind them on the left. The back cover is striped with the same yellow sun rays & blue shade as the front cover. 7 color plates including a colorful diagram showing the internal organs from esophagus to colon, another showing 'The Alimentary Time-Table', & 5 showing slim, healthy people. Many color illustration of prepared recipes, etc. No.329. Since the booklet's primary purpose is to advertise ALL-BRAN as ultimate in fighting constipation & dieting, there are only a few recipes using the product. Advice on proper eating, exercising, beauty aids, etc. is supplemented with a calorie chart, menus for 7 days, & an ideal weight chart. More interesting is that Kellogg was promoting the virtues of a high fiber diet over 50 years ago! Very faint crease down the center of the front & back cover, back cover lightly soiled o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects. The front cover illustration is of C. 1800 ladies in fancy dress 2 of whom are sitting at a table while a third is serving them dessert. Behind the this scene, the title is woven into a sampler with a ornate, colorful border in red & blue Letters. The sampler is surrounded by a blue frame with broken pediment & 'wooden' finial. wooden posts stand on each side of the frame. The back cover shows the same sampler framed in blue, but with a 'wooden' broken pediment on top & the company's trademarked White & Black boys in chef hats flanking the cowhead logo in a wreathe. Boxes of two varieties of Gelatine are below. 20 color illustrations of prepared recipes including a centerfold showing 12. 2 tiny stain spots on the front cover, back cover & the inside of the front cover have a few more light stains spots o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects. The title is partly in red & partly in white in a blue panel on the right side. 'Compliments of National Live Stock and Meat Board' is lettered in blue in a panel at the bottom. Illustrated with many b/w photo cuts & chapter headings illustrated with b/w line drawings. Some light soiling around the edges of the front cover which also has a 1/8' tear on the right edge; some faint tanning on the inside of both covers around the gutters; light wear on all edges o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects. 14th Edition. 80pp. 8vo. 5 1/4' x 8 1/2'. Orange wraps with full-color illustrations on both covers. The upper right front cover shows a little boy (a Kewpie look-alike) carrying a basket with Calmut can against a black background sprinkled with flowers & bees; the lower right illustrates a dog chasing a butterfly. The back cover pictures the same boy in the upper left leaping over a Calmut can against a black background sprinkled with flowers & bees while the dogs watches from the lower right. Both covers have all text lettered in black. 16 full-color plates (including 2 double-page illustrations of the Calumet factory) & 6 plates in b/w & orange. All text pages are headed by an illustration of either the Indian head flanked by medals which appeared on Calumet tins, or the little boy engaged in some activity related to the text. Both heads are flanked by device using scrolls & bellflowers. This edition was published within several years after 1922 since it includes a 1922 letter regarding a Certificate of Approval from Modern Priscilla Magazine; and Marion Jane Parker's 'The Children's Party Book' (published in 1923) is offered as a premium on the inside of the back cover. The covers have a little edge wear; the right edge of the front cover has a little spot of slight discoloration; 3 pages are heavily spotted with baking stains (see picture); & about 5 have a few scattered, insignificant light stains o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects. The cover is bordered with grapes & leaves in shades of purple & green with a inner border ruled in black & white. The back cover has long, thin panel illustrated with a vineyard with a border like the front & a tin of Royal Baker Powder. No illustrations. A very faint crease down the back cover, rubbing on the spine, 2 pages have tanned sections which appear to be from newspaper clippings once laid in o/w Fine (No defects). Index. ** William Ambrose Mason was a London bookseller who may have been the actual publisher. A very scarce book held only by Harvard's Schlesinger Library. Covers have some scattered light spotting, pages very lightly tanned. Generally Good, i.e. obvious signs of age with no major defects. See scan.

The publisher issued the booklet for the Culinary Arts Institute. No. 14 (the number assigned to the booklet in the first series issued by CAI) appears on the cover, and 153 North Michigan Avenue is listed as the address for Consolidated Book Publishers, Inc. This places the printing in late 1941, and the lack of a 25c price on the cover places it prior to about early 1942. The editor was the director of the Culinary Arts Institute. Both covers are decorated with a checkerboard design of white & silver with what appears to be a differently shaped snowflake in each of silver squares. The front cover also has black oval containing the title & 'Specially Prepared for the General Electric Refrigerator' in white Letters which is bordered with a white frame containing snowflakes & a oval green line. The framed oval lies within a green rectangle borders triple-ruled in white. Endpapers match the cover checkerboard design. Small frontispiece + 13 other color plates showing 11 prepared recipes & 2 interior views of the old monitor-tops. 8 large chapter head & 5 small cuts in the Art Deco style are also illustrated in color. Also 1 b/w plate. Index. Alice Bradley was the principal of Miss Farmer's School of Cookery & The Cooking Editor of Woman's Home Companion. Spine edges rubbed; all other edges worn with the corners bumped & heavily rubbed; the front cover has light soiling & stains while the back cover has a bit more; a portion of each of about 8 pages are damaged with the stains, scrapes & the remains which result from those for whom cooking is more important than Books.
