1st American edition. 131pp. 8vo. Black cloth with gilt-lettered spine. Endpapers have the personal bookplates of Alice P. Gannett on which '1939' is written in ink. Ms. Gannett (1876 - 1962), a prominent settlement-house worker and social activist, was the Director of the Goodrich Settlement House in Cleveland, which was renamed the Goodrich-Gannett Neighborhood Center in 1965, from 1917 to 1947. A bump on each of the outer edges of the covers o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects/ DJ (Top of the spine chipped & bottom worn, 1/2' edge tears on the top edge of the front cover & top of the right side of the spine, 2 smaller tears on the top edge of the front cover, 3/8' tear on the bottom of the back fold, & back slightly tanned).

711pp. Tall 8vo. Reddish brown cloth with front cover blindstamped with 'GS' over a leafy branch & horn. The spine has 5 panels, the 2nd from the top & 4th being ivory panels each bordered on the top & bottom with a pair of gilt rulings with gilt dots between. The upper panel has 'Complete Plays' in gilt, the lower 'Gilbert & Sullivan' in gilt. The other 3 panels are decorated with dancing figures in gilt. Lower corner of the back cover is impressed with the published logo. Top edge brown. Printed on laid paper. Text illustrations throughout by W. S. Gilbert signed 'Bab', the pen-name under which he drew sketches to illustrate his works ('Bab' was Gilbert's pet name as a baby). 32 b/w photo plates of 'recent' performances by the D'Oyly Carte Co. by Jerome Robinson. 14 musicals are included 'prepared from the authentic texts of the D'Oyly Carte Company'. Light tanning & a previous owner's stamp on front endpapers, light tanning & some soiling on back endpapers o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects/ DJ (1' edge tears on the right side of the bottom of the spine & at the bottom of the front flap fold, edges tattered & worn, overall light soiling). 232pp. sm8vo. Red cloth with title, author & 'Cameo Classics' in gilt & an embossed white cameo of Johann Gutenberg on the front cover. The spine lists the actual contents 'Pirates of Penzance, Pinafore, Mikado, Bab Ballads' & 'Cameo Classics' in gilt lettering; and is also decorated in gilt using a repeated ivy motif with rulings & dots. Top edge black. The subtitled (The Best Known Works of W. S. Gilbert) better describes the contents. B/w frontispiece is an early Gilbert & Sullivan program. Text illustrations throughout by W. S. Gilbert signed 'Bab', the pen-name under which he drew sketches to illustrate his works ('Bab' was Gilbert's pet name as a baby). A previous owner's stamp on both endpapers, very light band of fading at top of cover just above the title, spine just a little dull with the top ivy device mostly missing its gilt o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects. No dustjacket.
