1st American edition. 343pp. + 4pp. advertisements. 8vo. Olive-gray paper over boards with spine bearing a printed paper label in gray & maroon print. A darker olive-gray cloth dustjacket backed with paper has the same printed label on its spine panel. Endpapers are decorated with green floral vines. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Title page printed in orange & black. Several small scars in the gilt on the top edge, front flyleaf missing, a small '39' written in red ink in the upper right corner of the title page, the opposing pages of 2 leaves have shadows from some paper object once inserted between them, 1 leaf has a 3/4' tear at the bottom with 2 creases extending from the tear to the edge of the leaf, sparsely scattered spots of foxing o/w Very Good, i.e. signs of careful use with no significant defects/ DJ (Darkened with some dampstains a rather faint streaks of dark red across the top edge & bottom edge of the front panel, spine extremes worn, paper label darkened with some wear & minor edge chips).
