580pp. sm8vo. Leather-textured dark green cloth with the covers blindstamped as if 1/2 leather. The spine is divided into 5 panels separate by a row of gilt dots between gilt rulings. Frontispiece + 14 other b/w engraved illustrations (unsigned). The 30 volume set comprising the 'Works of Wilkie Collins' was published under the 'Peter Fenelon Collier' imprint. This imprint was used until 1900 when it was briefly changed to 'Peter Fenelon Collier & Son' before becoming 'P. F. Collier & Son' the following year. It remains, however, the only set of Books approaching his complete works. 2 tiny rubbed spots on the right spine edge, a faint stain spot in the center of the back cover o/w Very Good, i.e. shows signs of careful use with no significant defects.

671 Cramp, J. M. (John Mockett). The Council of Trent: Comprising An Account Of The Proceedings Of That Assembly; And Illustrating The Spirit And Tendency Of Popery.
Presbyterian Board of Publication [Philadelphia]. 1841. Hard Cover
1st edition thus. 192pp. 16mo. Quarter bound black leather & dark blue cloth with gilt-lettered & 6 gilt banded spine. PREFACE: THIS volume contains the historical portion of the work entitled, A Text-Book of Popery; comprising a History of the Council of Trent, held A. D. 1545-1563, and a complete view of the theological system of Popery. By J. M. Cramp. Second Edition. 1839. 8vo. It has been rearranged and abridged by the author. As it was deemed unnecessary, in a work intended for general readers, to crowd the margin with references, it may suffice to state, that the authorities chiefly consulted are the rival histories of Father Paul and Cardinal Pallavicini, and the voluminous collection of documents relative to the Council, published by LePlat, A. D. 1781-1787, in seven quarto volumes. The author is credited only in the Preface and not on the title page. This is the abridged 1st American edition published without the frontispiece present in the 1839/40 edition of The Religious Tract Society [London]. Heavy wear to leather, light wear to cloth, corners & spine extremes rubbed, light foxing on the endpapers, heavy foxing on the flyleaves, scattered light foxing on all pages, a lower portion of the back free endpaper torn off, both front endpapers inscribed E. G. Hamill price 30 cts, one in pencil & the other in ink. See Photo.
