High shoulder slightly tapers into collared neck that flares out to a flat rim. The sides of the waist taper down to the 9 d. base 4 Gal. 12 3/4 h. 11across the rim & about 12 d. across the waist, which has applied ear handles flush with the side. Incised line around the shoulder. Salt-glazed exterior with Albany slip interior. Impressed Sipe & Sons W'MSPORT, PA & 4 swiped with cobalt blue. Brushed cobalt design of 2 bold flowers emerging from 4 leaves. Cobalt brushed at the ends of each handle. Founded in 1867 by WilliamSipe, and joined by his two sons shortly thereafter, Sipe & Sons Pottery operated until about 1875 when the Sipes were joined by Abram Young and Joseph Nichols and the pottery was operated as Sipe, Nichols & Co until 1877. 2 old spider cracks, a small chip under one of the handles, and some very minor chips on the interior side of the rim. 18 oak handle with a steel mechanism for attaching a bit. The handle bears circular scribe marks 1 1/4 from each end and one in the center. The handle is impressed Wm. Tucker Blackstone, Mass. Patent March 22, 1859. The patent referenced is No. 23,326 issued to William Tucker of Blackstone for a Method Of Securing Bits In The Stock. William Tucker worked for TheSnell Manufacturing Company of Fiskdale, MA, which was founded by Melville Snell in 1841 when he came to the Sturbridge, MA area from Pawtucket, RI.The company remained in the Snell family until 1862 when it was acquired by apartnership of Emery L. Bates with the New York hardware firm of Clarke and Wilson. Tucker married the daughter of Melville Snell, Mary N Snell, in 1866. He was granted a total 15 patents & co-patents between 1858 and 1883, which were related to match making, wood-planing,and saw sharpening machines as well as several others related to drills and augers. U.S. Pat. Off. & You'll Like It in white. The Crown Cork & Seal Co., Baltimore, USA in white along the bottom in the lower right corner. C. 1920s. Celery-Cola was a soft drink created in 1887 by James Mayfield and manufactured in Birmingham, AL by his Celery-Cola Company from 1899 to 1910, when the FDA successfully prosecuted the company for dangerous levels ofcocaine & caffeine not disclosed in its labeling. Mayfield revived Celery-Cola and renamed his company Celery-Cola Corporation of America,which was successful through the 1920s,the 1920s, but did not survive the Great Depression.
