1516 Pfaltzgraff Pottery Co. POTTERY by PFALTZGRAFF (Catalog Reprints From 1935 & 1936).
The Pfaltzgraff Pottery Co. [York, PA]. 1935 & 1936.
6 pages each. 8 1/2' x 11 1/2'. Offset-printed on paper from good photocopies of the originals. These are actually called 'Price Lists', but illustrate each shape along with its casting or stock number, dimensions, & original price. The illustrations are in black & white as they were in the originals. 'Price List No. 6' (Effective July 1, 1935) shows 111 shapes & lists the 18 colors available for each. 'Price List No. 7' (Effective January 1, 1936) shows 108 shapes along with a listing of the 16 available colors. Several shapes were added & several deleted from the 1936 catalog which also dropped 2 colors. These catalogs document Pfaltzgraff's short venture into Art Pottery in response to both the Depression & the growing threat of imported pottery. The dramatic departure from their traditional shapes & colors into Art Deco designs with lively colors was began in 1932 and ended in 1937 shortly after Price List No. 7 was issued. Priced as a pair. C. 1902 - 1905.
Beaded Coolidge Drape hemispherically-shaped font about 12 1/2 d. across the top embossed with 4 large sections of swagged drapery separated by panels featuring 3 columns of beads. Drop-in-lift-out Rochester-type brass center draft burner & reservoir marked Fostoria & Patented Sept. 9.90 Apr. 11.93 Apr. 30.95 on the top. The patent dates reference patent nos. 436,093 & 495,289 respectively, which were assigned to P&A Mfg. Co. (Plume & Atwood) by Lewis Atwood. P&A made these brass font pots for Fostoria Shade & Lamp Co., which merged into Consolidated Lamp & Glass Company in 1893. Consolidated used these in their Extra-Fancy Grade Lamps including their red satin glass lamps. Attributed to the Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass & Glass Co. Pittsburgh, Swissvale &Jeannette, PA. C. 1902 - 1905. Base (original) consists of a ringed brass connector resting on a lacquered brass disc-shaped base supported by 4scrolled & beaded feet. The disc is supported by a steel ring & crossbars holding the central connector bolt & nut impressed P&A {Plume & Atwood) & 218. 25 1/2 h. With respect to rarity, this is a marriage made in heaven. The Regal Iris shade is rare and the Beaded Coolidge Drape font is more so. Both the selenium red glass & the designs are products of Nicholas Kopp who directed operations are both companies. All parts are original or of the period and working. No harm chipping around base of shade's collar & in-the-making roughness around the top ring. Scattered worn spots & tarnishing on lacqered disc & feet. No chimney.
